Idar, now in Gujarat, was originally an independent state of the Rathore clan of Jodhpur (Marwar). Rawal GUHIL (ca 569-ca 586) made Idar his capital when he founded the GUHILOTS, forerunner of the Mewar Dynasty.

Iksahvaku, a family of the pre-historic Puranic ages, from whom the Mewar Dynasty traditionally claims descent. See MEWAR'S TRADITIONAL LINEAGE.

Iltutmish, Sultan, ruler of Delhi's Slave Dynasty (r. 1211-1236). He made inroads into Mewar's neighbouring eastern state, Malwa, but that threat to Mewar went no further, as Iltutmish died a year later. A decade of factional infighting consumed the time and energy of his successors, leaving the Rajputs to return to fighting among themselves.

Imperial Dairy, part of the Commercial Division of the MAHARANA MEWAR INSTITUTION TRUST. It is near Sahelion-ki-Bari, and keeps up to fifty cows to supply fresh milk to the city.

Imperial Goat Breeding Farm, part of the Commercial Division of the MAHARANA MEWAR INSTITUTION TRUST. It is located at Shikarbadi, and is for the propagation of the Parbati (Deogerh Madria) breed. The goats' milk is fed to the horses at the nearby Imperial Stud Farm, and the manure goes to the Agricultural Farm.

Imperial Riding and Polo Club, part of the Commercial Division of the MAHARANA MEWAR INSTITUTION TRUST. Located at Shikarbadi, it breeds and trains about sixty-two half-bred and thoroughbreds for Polo both in Udaipur and at the company's Polo complex in Jaipur. It also looks after Arvind Singh's personal stable of about thirty Marwari half-bred and thoroughbreds.

Imperial Stud and Agriculture Farm, part of the Commercial Division of the MAHARANA MEWAR INSTITUTION TRUST. Located at Shikarbadi, it is used for research in wildlife and for agricultural purposes.

Inder Singh. There were several leading members of clans who had this name. They came from Bavlas (Sisodia); Bhainsrorgarh (Choondawat), and Moie (Bhati).

Indersagar, Lake, north of Udaipur; Eklingji Temple stands near the lake shore.

Indian Mutiny, also known as the Sepoy Mutiny, a widespread but unsuccessful revolt against British rule in India. Sepoys (Indian troops in the employ of the East India Company) started the rebellion, which resulted in the transfer of government from the Company to the British Crown (the British Government in India, otherwise known as the British Raj). The uprising inspired later nationalist movements. Maharana SWAROOP SINGH was ruling Mewar at the time of the mutiny, and gave refuge to the British women and children living in Mewar, stating that "war is only for men". The families were housed on the island of JAG MANDIR until the end of the uprising.

Indrabhan. There were several leading members of clans who had this name. They came from Bijolia (Paramara), and Sardargarh (Dodia Rajput).

interregnum, an interval of time between the close of a sovereign's reign and the accession of his normal or legitimate successor; also the period during which a state has no ruler, or only a temporary executive. These periods occurred several times, for one reason or another, during Mewar's history.
