Laxman Singh. There were several leading members of clans who had this name. They came from Bansra (Ranawat); Bemali (Choondawat); Karjali (Ranawat); Kherabad (Baba); Nimri (Machecha Rathore); Parsoli (Chauhan); Peeladhar (Sisodia); Pipalya (Saktawat); Sanwar (Ranawat); Sardargarh (Dodia Rajput), and Shahpura (Sisodia).

Laxmi (Hindu Goddess): see LAKSHMI.

Laxmi Chowk (Courtyard of the Goddess Laxmi), City Palace, Udaipur. The main courtyard of Zanana Mahal, it gives access to the palaces, RANG BHAWAN and BADAL MAHAL, and houses a fine collection of miniature paintings.

Laxmi Vilas Hotel, in Udaipur's northern sector on Moti Magri Road. It has a hall, Laxmi Vilas Palace Hall that is rented out for conferences and live performances.

lingam (ling), (Hindi); the symbolic phallic male organ (penis) of the god Shiva, shown as an upright stone rounded at the top; worshipped in temples for its fertile reproductive power (Shiva being both the god of Destruction and Reproduction).

Lokendra Singh Rathore, Kunwar, son of Thakur Sahib Mahendra Singhi and Thakurani Saniba Pratap Kumari, of Ghanerao. A champion polo player, Lokendra married Bhargavi, daughter of Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, March 27, 1995. They have a daughter, Lokaviaa Rathore.

Loonda (Choondawat), a town 85 km. from Udaipur. The Loonda family are the descendants of Kishandas's tenth son, Vithaldas of SALUMBAR. Vithaldas's grandson Dayaldas's son, Ranchordas, received the jagir of Loonda and the title of 'Rawat' from Maharana Ari Singh II. Ranchordas had two sons, Ajab Singh and Daulat Singh. The latter succeeded his father, while Ajab received the jagir of THANA.

Lun Karan, Rao, of Dungapur, defeated in one of the ongoing battles against the Mughal army after the Battle of HALDIGHATI (1576).

Luna, Kunwar, a son of Maharana LAKHA (1832-1421); his sons held the estates (jagirs) of Malpur, Kantharia and Kheda.
