Rood (Rud) (Saktawat), a town 110 km. from Udaipur on the border of Chittor and Bhilwara districts, between Rashmi and Gangrar; Maharana Ari Singh II (1761-1773) granted the jagir of Rood to Devi Singh Saktawat, a son of SAKTA SINGH, founder of the SAKTAWAT clan.

Genealogy: Devi Singh; Jawan Singh; Sujan Singh; Gopal Singh; Nirbhai Singh; Indra Singh.

Roop Singh. There were several leading members of clans who had this name. They came from Bambori (Paramara); Gyangadh (Choondawat); Kelwa (Jaitmal Rathore), and Netawal (Ranawat).

Roopnagar (Solanki), a town 125 km. from Udaipur, south of Kumbhalgarh near Desuri on the border of Marwar. It became the jagir of the Sardars (Solanki Rajputs) and their title is 'Thakur'. Originally, the Solankis lived in Gujarat but they were ousted, and Depa Solanki settled near Bhinai in the Ajmer district. In the late 1400s, Depa's son, Bhoj, eventually migrated and settled in Lach village in Sirohi district. Unfortunately, local chieftain Rao Lakha of Sirohi did not accept Bhoj, and they fought a number of battles, the Rao having assistance from Idar. This conflict ended with the death of Bhoj and the taking over of Lach village. Bhoj's son, Raimal and grandson, Shanker Singh fled and took refuge with Maharana Raimal (1473-1509) at Kumbhalgarh.

At that time, Madrecha Chauhans who were causing the Maharana a deal of trouble ruled the paragna (district) of Desuri. In return the Maharana promised the Solanki the jagir of Desuri. When Raimal Solanki Raimal told Mewar's Maharana Raimal that the Chauhans were his relatives and he could not fight them, the Maharana replied that he had no other place to shelter them. So, under compulsion, and the need of the hour, the Solanki killed the Chauhans and annexed their one hundred and forty villages. As promised, they were rewarded with Desuri.

Raimal Solanki had four sons. Descendants of the elder son, Shanker, are the Jilwara family; Samant Singh's descendants are the Roopnagar family. Samant's brother, Bhairavdas, died in the battle against Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat at the second sack of Chittor, where a gateway is named after him (Bhairav Pol). His grandson, Veeramdeo was with Maharana Amar Singh I (1597-1620) during his conflict with Mughal prince Khurram. Veeramdeo's third descendant, Bika fought against Emperor Aurangzeb during the reign of Maharana Raj Singh I (1653-1680), and took part in looting a Mughal treasure caravan.

Genealogy: Bhoj; Patta; Raimal; Samant Singh; Devraj; Veeramdeo I; Jaswant Singh; Dalpat Singh; Bika (Vikram); Surajmal; Shyamaldas; Veeramdeo II; Jeevraj; Kuber Singh; Ratan Singh; Sardar Singh; Naval Singh; Varisal; Bhupal Singh; Ajit Singh.
