Introduction
The former Maharana, Shriji Bhagwat Singhji, in July 1974 established Maharana
Mewar Public School, a co-educational English Medium School, in the City Palace Complex.
Founded by the Vidyadan Trust, the school provides high quality
education to a cross-section of children, ensuring a well-integrated
development physical, educational, moral and social.
In its first academic year, 1974 - 75, 212 children were enrolled from classes
I-VI. In its second year, the school’s student strength rose to 305. In
1978-79, the school upgraded to the Secondary level and established an
affiliation with CBSC (Central Board of School Certificate), New Delhi.
In the academic year 1998-99, there are 890 students in the Maharana Mewar
Public School, and 38 teaching staff. 248 students appeared for the national
class X board examinations (CBSC), and 114 got distinctions. 90 students
appeared before the examining board for class XII and 45 achieved distinctions.
A single year’s highlights - the prestigious IIT colleges, technical universities
of international repute have enrolled, for further studies, one student
from the current academic batch. For outstanding academic achievement one
student in this year as was awarded a prize by the District Collector.
Maharana Mewar Public School gives due importance to physical education,
to provide a platform where students with sporting talent are allowed to
show their prowess. 4 students from the current academic year (98-99) were
selected to play basketball at a state level, 2 students were selected
to play Table Tennis at a State Level and 1 student, to play football.
The school has been represented at the National Chess Tournament on more
than one occasion. The School Quiz Team has won prizes at inter school
competitions. Students are charting their careers in the field of medicine.
As a school, MMPS has always offered its students an impressive range of extra
curricula activities. Debating, dramatics, dance and music, art and craft
are some hobbies that help develop the sensitivities of students. To tap
leadership qualities among the students, the NCC Boys wing was initiated
in the year 1989-90. The Girls NCC was started in 199-96. 100 girls and
150 boys are a part of the NCC. Today, in April 2000, the school at 2 years
can boast of numerous honours, laurels and achievements. There are 800
students, 21 senior sections. There is a Science stream and a commerce
stream. The school has pioneered the study of Computer Science. MMPS has
a hi-tech computer library with Internet facilities. In the next academic
year the school will introduce Information Technology as an optional subject
– a course of study far advanced of it time, in these circumstances. The
school’s Science Laboratories are equipped with the latest apparatus. There
is a rich library within the school complex that holds over ten thousand
books. The school also has access to the new Special Library that has recently
been constructed, a library thoroughly modern in its services.
