Parvarish
Under the predetermined stratification, parvarish supports and sustains the former
attendants of the House of Mewar. Women receive financial aid from this
trust. The numbers and figures of recipients vary. For example in 1996,
financial aid was given primarily to the destitute and orphaned ladies
of Mewar. In all 63 beneficiaries received assistance per month. In 1987,
there were 57 monthly beneficiaries, and by 1999, 70 women in a calendar
month received parvarish from the trust.
Scholarships
Scholarships have also been an avenue for the distribution of economic compensation
for women. In a society, which previously denied equal opportunities to
women, the Rajmata Gulab Kuwarji Trust was far-sighted in its approach
and determined in its outlook. For years, now, deserving women have benefited
from higher education and collegiate education - where it was previously
either denied to them, or, it was financially difficult for a family to
support.
Since 1988, scholarships have become a regular attribute of the Trust.
The Trust sponsors higher education for women at both a high school and
university level. In July 1988 a research scholar of Udaipur was awarded
financial assistance for presenting a paper in an International Conference
on Diseases in Vancouver, Canada. In the same month, another Ph.D. student
received financial aid for conducting research work in the field of Sanskrit.
Scholarships have also been granted to students at Ajmer's Mayo Girls College.
In most cases, had it not been for the intervention of the Trust, the formal
school education of these young ladies would have drawn to a close. The
Trust stepped in and supported these worthy ladies faced with extreme situations.
The Trust has encouraged the study of diverse subjects. In March 1990, a scholarship
was awarded for the pursuing of studies in Textile designing at Malviya
Engineering College, Jaipur. Assistance has also been given for the presentation
of papers at foreign symposia. In 1989, scholarships were awarded for the
pursuing of courses in disparate subjects such as Nursing studies, Engineering,
liberal arts degrees at universities in Rajasthan and the sponsorship of
articles presented at forums both in India and abroad. Some of the subjects
covered by these scholars have been ornithological research and agricultural
research. Such is the vast extent and scope of the Rajmata Gulab Kuwarji
Trust.
Donations
With Donations, the aim of the Trust is to make women independent to a certain extent.
Women should have recourse to higher education as well as medical relief
and better living. In a society, which is only just emerging from patriarchal
dominance, such support offers women opportunities and makes them the masters
of their own destinies.
Donations cover an impressive spectrum - that which has not been covered under the
above strata. So as to benefit the society of women in a fair and comprehensive
manner, donations encompasses all social tracts from medical relief to
financial assistance for marriages as well as encouragement of vocational
courses for the betterment of the lives of the women of Mewar and Rajasthan.
Donations are also awarded to institutions that promote piety and religious
activities especially for women. Generous donations have been granted to
the Gandharva Pratishtan in Udaipur, expressly for the above purpose. Educational
Institutions, which provide vocational training to women and girls that
help create and build self-awareness and self-reliance, have also been
the recipients of donations from the Trust. The Hammed Medical Relief Society,
Jaipur's Maternity Home and funding for hospital equipment has all come
from the Trusts funds. The Rajasthan Mahila (Women) Parishad, Udaipur,
a dedicated institution engaged to promote education amongst the girls
of Mewar has also been the beneficiary of numerous donations made by this
Trust. This institute also received monetary assistance for the construction
of a Senior Higher Secondary School for women. A Hindi typewriter was also
presented by the Trust to the institute for vocational training courses.
Women officiated trusts like animal shelters, old-age homes; geriatric
hospitals have also received support from the Rajmata Gulab Kuwarji Trust.
The promotion of religion and the construction of temples are also beneficiaries
of the Trust. A nursing home - Jyoti Nursing Centre received assistance
for the construction of a nursing home in Udaipur. Donations have also
been granted to tribal women who have undertaken vocational courses. Sachetak
- The Society for Social Action and Awareness amongst Tribal Women has
also received donations for the development of tribal women and children
near the Jaisamand area. In July 1998, a generous donation was made to
Chiteri Mahila Kalakar Sansthan, Udaipur for organising a workshop of working
Women Artists of Rajasthan.
Individuals have also received donations in the form of medical aid. Financial assistance
has been given to a widow in Kota, for the treatment of cancer. An economically
disadvantaged woman underwent a successful kidney transplant in Bombay.
War widows of the Jat Regiment have secured donations through the Trust.
Handicapped women have benefited and prosthetic limbs have been provided.
A poor harijan (schedule cast) man of Udaipur received donations to solemnize
the wedding of his only daughter.
Such are the social duties that this Trust has undertaken.
